National Charity League, Inc.,
(NCL) is a non-profit organization of mothers and daughters in grades
7-12. This national organization is made up of local chapters engaged
in community service. Our purpose is to foster a sense of community
responsibility in the girls as well as to strengthen the mother/daughter
relationship. Our mission statement is: To
foster mother-daughter relationships in a philanthropic organization
committed to community service, leadership development, and cultural
experiences.
NCL has three components:
Philanthropic Work, Cultural Activities, and Educational Events. In
order to join NCL, current members in good standing must sponsor women
and their daughters. Membership requires a continuous record of
service.
Monterey Bay Chapter was chartered
in 1989 and has over 200 active members. We consider the local
community’s needs and select philanthropies to support. Support is
provided through the donation of time and organizational skills.
Monterey Bay supports over 20 philanthropies including Project
Linus, American Cancer Society, Carmel Library Foundation, Dorothy’s
Place, Meals on Wheels, Nancy’s Project, Hospice Foundation, SPCA,
Ag Against Hunger and others.
Educational activities are
designed to teach daughters to be self-assured young women in today’s
society, to demonstrate good manners, to respect others and to develop
leadership skills.
Cultural events help members develop community awareness and cultural sensitivity.
